It is quite brave of Suunto replacing the Gekko, it has been the best selling entry level dive computer in the UK since we can remember. So when heard the news we were slightly concerned that this might be just another dive supplier letting all the fame go to their head and over-engineering what is already a great product.
So we breathed a huge sigh of relief when we found out that the only real difference (other than the groovy name - Zoop is short for Zooplankton - the stuff Whalesharks eat ) between the Gekko and the Zoop is a backlight and the ability to download your dive data to a PC via a Suunto PC download cable - the two most lacking features on the Suunto Gekko - so bring it on we say !
